Plex is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Player to join its distributed engineering team. In this role, you will build and maintain critical client-side video playback infrastructure powering one of the most widely used streaming platforms.

You will work on optimizing playback performance, developing new player features, and collaborating across product, backend, and client engineering teams. This role involves deep work with video playback technologies and cross-platform applications, including mobile, TV, and web.

• Maintain, optimize, and improve client-side video playback components.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, Content, and Marketing teams to deliver new player features.
• Work with client and backend engineers to define architecture and feature implementation.
• Lead and participate in code reviews, ensuring clean, well-tested code.
• Contribute to technical discussions and architecture decisions.
• Work on React Native-based applications across mobile, TV, and web platforms.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to team-wide initiatives.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with low-level video playback technologies such as FFmpeg, ExoPlayer, or MediaCodec.
• Experience building user-facing applications for platforms like Android, iOS, tvOS, macOS, or Roku.
• Understanding of streaming protocols such as HLS and DASH.
• Ability to work effectively in distributed teams.
• Strong ownership mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Nice to have: React Native or React experience.
• Nice to have: Kotlin, Java, or C++.
• Nice to have: Experience with streaming applications.
