Ethos is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join its international remote team and help build scalable backend systems powering its life insurance platform. You will work across the stack with a strong focus on backend architecture, APIs, and high-performance systems.

This role involves designing and maintaining complex distributed systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to engineering standards, system design, and mentoring within the team.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems.
• Develop and maintain robust, well-designed APIs.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver features.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in systems.
• Participate in code reviews and enforce engineering best practices.
• Define and promote coding standards and architectural guidelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team growth.

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong background in backend architecture and large-scale systems.
• Experience designing clean, scalable APIs.
• Deep understanding of software engineering best practices (design patterns, testing, code reviews).
• Knowledge of system performance optimization.
• Understanding of security principles and common attack vectors.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
