Job Description
Miro is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join the Collaboration Runtime team in Yerevan. In this role, you will help build a reusable Collaboration Engine that powers real-time collaboration experiences across Miro products and future AI-driven surfaces.
You will work on high-performance distributed backend systems, including WebSocket transport layers, gRPC streaming infrastructure, and scalable real-time collaboration services supporting millions of users worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Implement core features of the Collaboration Engine and Broadcast Application.
- Develop and optimize gRPC streaming support including unary, bidirectional, and server-side streaming.
- Build and maintain application and server registry infrastructure for service discovery and routing.
- Execute connection multiplexing rollout between RTC Gateway and application servers.
- Write high-concurrency backend code in Java or Kotlin for low-latency WebSocket communication.
- Collaborate with AI and Platform teams to integrate services into the Collaboration Engine.
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and high uptime across real-time systems.
- Debug and optimize stateful distributed systems and backend proxies.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin.
- Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and JVM performance.
- Experience building and maintaining distributed systems or microservices.
- Hands-on experience with WebSockets and gRPC.
- Strong understanding of concurrency patterns and stateful application debugging.
- Ability to write clean, scalable, and testable backend code.
- Experience collaborating across engineering teams on APIs and integrations.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
